Some suggestions:
1. It's cheating, but you could use an image map.
2. Have you tried iridiscence (the irid keyword). I've not used this
feature very often, but it creates those rainbow-like textures, so
perhaps if you get it just right, it'll look good. I don't know for
sure, though...
